Chiropractic Ankle Adjustment

We all know the classic treatment for a sprained ankle, right? R-I-C-E (rest, ice, compression, elevation.) After rolling an ankle out on the ball field or basketball court, we end up on the recliner with our feet up and an ice pack 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. We then go back to whatever sport or activity we love only to have the same thing happen again. What if you could get a chiropractic ankle adjustment? “Wait, what? I thought chiropractors made elderly backs and necks go “snap, crackle, pop!? Chiropractors do treat the spine, but they are also trained in performing adjustments and other interventions to the extremities. Although sometimes, a sprained ankle might need more than just a chiropractic ankle adjustment. In extreme cases, you’ll need  help from a podiatrist. Meanwhile, here’s why a chiropractor ankle adjustment is better than self treating.

1. Your muscles are weak. A chiropractor can massage your peroneus muscles to break up adhesions that are preventing the muscles attached to your ankle from getting stronger. He or she can also give you specific exercises for working the muscles that are giving you problems. chiropractic ankle adjustment

2. Your brain can’t tell your ankle what to do. When the bones in your foot and ankle are misaligned, they can obstruct the pathway on which your brain and foot usually communicate. A chiropractic ankle adjustment will clear the path.

3. You lose range of motion. If you don’t get proper treatment after spraining an ankle, scar tissue will form, and your mobility will be affected.

On your first visit to the chiropractor, they will probably tell you to rest, ice, compress, and elevate. It is still a great way to get the swelling down! The difference is that after the inflammation subsides, they can develop a treatment plan to treat the root issues to keep that ankle where it is supposed to be, keep you off of that recliner, and get you back out doing the things you love.
